U.S.A. - Severe weather
• Severe weather, including thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rain, hail and tornadoes affected several areas of Midwest and Mid-Atlantic United States on 21-23 June. Several tornadoes were reported in the states of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Michigan on 22 June.
• According to media (as of 23 June), seven people were injured and several damages occurred, mostly in the area of Coal City in northern Illinois.
• Over the next 24h, severe weather may still affect some areas of northern Plains and Midwest, in particular across northern Illinois into northwestern Indiana.

Pakistan - Heatwave
• The death toll from the heatwave of the last few days is still significantly rising in southern Pakistan. As of early 24 June, media reported over 800 dead in the southern provinces of Sindh and Balochistan and another 30 in other areas of southern Pakistan.
• Over the next 24h, light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms may affect some areas of south-eastern Sindh, while in Karachi the maximum temperature expected is 37-40 °C.

Vietnam, China - Tropical Cyclone KUJIRA
• KUJIRA made landfall in the coast of northern Vietnam, in the area south of Haiphong, early in morning of 24 June, as a Tropical Storm, and then moved towards south-eastern Hanoi capital city.
• Over the next 24h it is forecast to pass Hanoi, weakening and reaching the northern tip of Vietnam on 25 June, dissipating. On 24-25 June heavy rain will affect several areas of northern and central Vietnam, as well as south-western Guangxi and southern Yunnan provinces (China).
• As of 24 June, a Blue Warning for Typhoon and a Yellow Warning for Rainstorm is in effect in some areas of south-eastern China.

Guatemala - Chemical Spill
• An environmental damage has occurred in Guatemala due to the runoff from chemical compounds into the river "La Pasion", located in Petén province, which borders Mexico and Belize. The pollution is currently extending more than 100 km of the river's course.
• According to the Guatemalan Government, the disaster is considered to be the most serious environmental problem affecting species and the ecosystem in the region, and also fishermen, villages and communities that use and benefit from the La Pasion River in Guatemala and Mexico.
• On 17 June CONRED have requested assistance from the UN in form of environmental experts.

South Sudan - Cholera
• The government has declared a cholera outbreak on 23 June. A total of 171 suspected cases of cholera and 18 deaths have been reported.
• WHO, UNICEF and a number of NGOs working in the areas of health, water, sanitation and hygiene are increasing prevention and preparedness measures through coordinated action. This includes oral vaccination, the setting up of cholera treatment centres and awareness raising campaigns.

Sudan - Refugee influx from South Sudan
• Up to 9,159 South Sudanese have been registered in Kharasana, Keilak locality, West Kordofan State. The registration has been conducted by WFP. Arrivals continue to cross the border at an estimated rate of 100-150 people per day.
• Those arriving are in poor physical condition, with three deaths reported, two upon arrival and one on the journey, where food and water were scarce. Three quarters of the total influx are children.
• An inter-agency Rapid Needs Assessment began on 15 June with participation from several UN partners. UNHCR has begun transportation of 2,000 NFI kits. 1,000 will be delivered directly to Kharasana for distribution through a UNHCR partner. UNICEF will provide 6 bladders with a combined capacity of 40,000 litres as well as 60,020 litre jerrycans.
